Bioinformatics

The bioinformatics core provides a focus for the storage and analysis of large-scale data sets coming from all areas of the Center. The experimental parts of the Center generate large amounts of data, far beyond the scale gathered at Yale in the past. These data are being reliably stored in a way that allows viewing and flexible analysis for many different purposes. The bioinformatics core is also building innovative tools that permit diverse analyses of the data that involves integrated linkage to different national data bases and software tools. Activities in this core involve research in design of biological databases, including data and knowledge representation, interoperation, and powerful querying; techniques for data analysis including data mining, statistical analysis, and algorithmic techniques; modeling and simulation of biological systems that provide insights and guide further experiments; data visualization; biological applications of high-performance computing.
